There is a lot of evidence to show that people who see their dentist more frequently have healthier mouths; we like to keep a close eye on our patients and many will be seen by us every three or four months. We are here to help you achieve and maintain a healthy mouth by providing preventive and high quality restorative care. We use the latest equipment, including digital X-rays and  soft tissue diode lasers, to give us an outstanding diagnostic and restorative capability. We are also able to improve the appearance of your teeth by whitening them and using tooth coloured fillings, veneers, crowns and bridges. If you would like to improve your smile we can explain and discuss the options with you.

We do not provide different 'levels' of care with different fee structures. For us, it is quite simple, there is only one level of care that is acceptable and that is the best that we can do.

Private patients have access to a full range of preventive, restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Having your dental care provided privately means that you will benefit from more time spent providing you with the best care and attention. You will receive treatment provided using the best modern materials and equipment. We use only high quality dental laboratory services.

Portway Dental Care

Portway Dental Care is our very own dental care plan. Having Portway Care means that you can enjoy all the benefits of private dental care without the worry of costly and unexpected bills. You can look forward to better long term oral health because Portway Dental Care allows us to place greater emphasis on preventive dental care. We have more opportunity to monitor your dental health, give you advice and take positive steps to help you avoid tooth decay and gum disease, helping you to prevent problems before they start. You are entitled to all the routine care and treatment you need to keep your teeth and gums healthy, including examinations, routine treatments, dental X-rays, periodontal (gum) treatment, fillings and major restorative work such as inlays, crowns, bridges and dentures (excluding laboratory fees). Plan membership includes eligibility to request assistance from the worldwide dental emergency service.  This is invaluable in the event of a dental injury or dental emergency, whether you are at home, or away from home on business or holiday. You have access to a 24-hour Worldwide Dental Emergency Helpline that can give you help to find a dentist wherever you are in the world. We offer our Portway Dental Care patients a 30% discount (excluding laboratory fees) on all treatment provided by us that is not included in their plan. This would include purely cosmetic treatment such as tooth whitening, for example.

Dr. Brodie and Dr. Nga currently have a limited contract to provide NHS care to children. Dr. Walley provides treatment on a private basis only.


The practice has a special interest in children, so please bring them early! Preventive dentistry can then be started in the form of advice on diet, oral hygiene and the use of fluoride. We have a Portway Dental Care package specifically designed for children, so that they too can enjoy all of the benefits of private preventive care and cover from our supplementary insurance. Your dental health as a child is likely to influence dental treatment needs for the rest of your life, so childhood dental health is particularly important.


Prevention can and should continue from childhood through adulthood and into old age. You can keep your mouth looking and feeling healthy for life. As an adult there will be greater emphasis on the prevention of periodontal (gum) disease, as this is the major cause of tooth loss in adults. Our hygienist is an essential part of the team and works closely with the dentists in the treatment and prevention of periodontal disease.

Specialist Treatment

If you require treatment that we are unable to provide, we can refer you to an appropriate practitioner who will be able to provide you with a high standard of specialist care.

Disabled patients

The practice is accessible by wheelchair users. We have a ramp and handrail at the entrance; all of our surgeries are located on the ground floor. As we are an old building, we have not been able to make our toilet facilities suitable for wheelchair users. Disabled toilet facilities are available at the nearby Civic Hall and at the public car park in Portway.

Paying For Your Dental Care

The practice offers a number of payment options. We accept cash and all the major credit or debit cards, we do not accept cheques.  We normally ask patients to pay for the treatment they receive at the time it is provided. For treatment that requires the services of a dental laboratory, we may ask for a deposit at the first appointment. A copy of our fee scale is available at reception, or can be downloaded here. All patients who require more than one visit will be provided with a written treatment plan, detailing the treatment and fee for each visit. 


As a caring practice we take all necessary precautions against cross infection to safeguard our patients, our staff and their families. We have a new, purpose built decontamination and sterilisation area that exceeds the ‘minimum requirements’ of cross infection control, meeting the ‘best practice’ standard. We have recently invested in the latest computer controlled digital X-ray equipment, which is more accurate than the equivalent conventional equipment with a much lower X-ray dose. We follow recommended procedures with regard to radiation protection. The safety and efficiency of our X-ray equipment and procedures are checked regularly by Public Health England.

Good communication with our patients is very important to us and we take time to explain proposed treatment, any risks associated with it as well as available alternatives. 
We have intra oral cameras that allow us to show you pictures of the inside of your mouth, helping you to understand proposed and completed treatment.
There will always be time to ask questions about your treatment or any other aspect of care at the practice.

We have a practice based Complaints Policy and will try to ensure the matter is resolved as quickly as possible.
If are not satisfied with our response, you can take the matter further by using the NHS complaints procedure for NHS treatment or the GDC Dental Complaints Service if you are a private patient. Details of both of these services can be found on the GDC website.
